When and why did the song “Erika” become so associated ... - Reddit
Erika was published in 1938 though it was probably written sometime around 1930 (For context Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933). It was used extensively during Nazi events and was likely the most popular marching song of the Wehrmacht during the Second World War and one of the most popular of the whole war on any side.

Erika is an Italian artist, but the comment section of that Youtube video is mostly Brazilians. This suggests to me that the song was a local hit in the dance clubs of Brazil and not much of a hit elsewhere.

It is tongue-in-cheek, so called 'Soldatenhumor'. The singer who is supposed to be a soldier compares a flower, called 'Erika' in german, to the genital of his girlfriend, also named Erika ('swarmed by masses of bees because her heart [flower also has a female article] is full of sweet liquids, tender scent evaporates').

The song I heard the German Army/Air Force use was "I had a Komrad." And "Germany Over All" Never Erika. Even that was just at formal parades and other ceremonies. They marched silent, unlike the American Army.
